Hey there, friends! Welcome to our latest supper club party. This month I’ve teamed up with my 5 friends, Michele, Rachel, Stacy, Anne, and AnnMarie, to share tips and ideas for hosting an unforgettable backyard BBQ.

For those of you who are visiting from Michele at Vintage Home Designs, thanks for stopping by! Texans know a thing or two about a good BBQ, and I loved Michele’s tips for how to throw a simple backyard get-together.

Each month we’re also joined by a guest host, and we’re so happy to welcome Kim from Shiplap and Shells to our barbecue party.
Kim lives in a small 102-year-old cottage on the Puget Sound in the breathtaking Pacific Northwest. If you don’t know Kim yet, stop by her blog and take a look around at her stunning gardens and charming home.
We love to grill in the summer! And even though the season is starting to wind down, there’s still time to host a party! Today I’m sharing 5 simple ideas you can recreate to throw an unforgettable BBQ for family and friends in your backyard.
Backyard Bbq Party Ideas
Place a stack of plates near the end of the buffet. I used my favorite white stoneware plates, but if you want to cut down on your post-party clean-up, sturdy paper or plastic plates will work just fine.
I used chambray napkins with galvanized napkin rings. The napkin rings add a rustic element to the BBQ theme and help to keep the napkins from blowing away on a windy day.
The next question is, what do you serve at a backyard BBQ? There are so many choices when it comes to creating your menu.

For the main course, hamburgers or hotdogs are always a hit with a crowd, especially with young kids who might be at the party.
Grilled steak and vegetable kabobs are also a great option. The fresh veggies on the kabobs add some bright color to the buffet, and the skewers make it easy for guests to grab a quick bite and go.
Pro Tip: Use glass jars with lids to serve your side salads. It helps keep bugs out of your food before the party starts and makes it easy to clean up and store leftovers once the BBQ is over.

At a BBQ, most guests will gravitate toward the food first, so set up a stand-alone drink and dessert bar to keep the buffet line moving.
A separate space for beverages and desserts makes it easy for your guests to fill their plates and return later to grab a drink and some sweets.
I styled it up and turned it into a DIY drink and dessert station with some sodas, a water dispenser, and, one of my favorites, chocolate chip cookies.
Easy Tabletop Ideas For Summer Parties
Since the main focus of a BBQ is good food and good company, it’s best to keep the decor for your party simple.
Pro Tip: Serving trays make great decor too! Choose pieces that look similar, like this galvanized tray and this metal cake stand to help create a theme that complements the rest of your party decor.
It’s not a BBQ without some fun music to set the mood. Grab a Bluetooth radio and play music from your favorite station.
Cookout & Backyard Bbq Hosting Ideas
My go-to playlist is packed with classic rock tunes from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, but you really can’t go wrong no matter what you choose.
Yard games make any backyard BBQ party more fun, so don’t forget to put a few out for your guests to play.
Bean bag toss, ladder golf, and lawn darts are all favorites in our house. The games get a bit competitive at times, but they always end with a lot of laughter.

Pro Tip: The end of the summer is a great time to stock up on yard games! Check for sales online and in stores for markdowns as they try to clear out seasonal toys to make way for fall and winter items.
As always, thank you for stopping by. I hope this post inspired you with some simple ideas you can recreate at home to host a BBQ this summer.

It’s hard to believe it’s almost summer. That means it’s time to dust off the grill for backyard entertaining and summer party themes.

Whether you’re hosting a 4th of July party, a casual cookout, or you’ve been planning for weeks, these tips will help to insure your party goes off without a hitch.
Easy Diy Summer Table Centerpieces
This is a great reference for seasoned hosts, novice entertainers, or those who want to host but don’t know where to start.
After preparing everything beforehand, I like to take the opportunity to turn things over to the Co-Captain (the husband in my case) and let him man the grill during the party.
It’s actually not as self-serving as it sounds. I’ve found that most men like having an activity to focus on, and it becomes a conversation gathering spot.

People always ask, “what can I bring?” and a backyard bbq is the perfect time to have a potluck party. Each guest or couple can bring a side dish to share, drinks, dessert, or their own protein.
As the host we typically provide the main course like steak, kabobs, burgers or hotdogs. But for very large gatherings, like a neighborhood block party, it’s perfectly reasonable for guests to bring their own protein.
Set up folding tables around the yard or patio and set a festive tablescape. Bring everyday dishes outside or use melamine for a non-breakable option.
Outdoor Bbq Ideas For A Fun Summer Party
Keep the settings simple and choose a color scheme that works for the occasion. Add small favors to each plate by filling small sacks with salt water taffy.
An easy way to serve a large group is to use tin pie pans as plates instead of traditional dishware. You can find them anywhere kitchen supplies are sold, but I like to go to the dollar store for inexpensive ones.
They’re more sturdy than disposable, and they add style to the rustic outdoor atmosphere. Line them with parchment paper for even easier cleanup!

Simple Ideas For An Unforgettable Backyard Bbq
Place long tables with easy access to put food on and guests can help themselves. Place the tables in a shaded area or under cover, like a tent or porch overhang.
Set up food buffet tables, seated table settings, and outdoor décor to reflect a theme. Here are some creative ideas to consider.
Add some decorative lighting so when the sun goes down you’ll have a beautiful glow and you can still see. Lighting is a great way to add ambiance and define a space. These are some of my favorites.
Easy Baby Shower Bbq Ideas For Any Backyard
Offer paper or woven hand held fans for guests to use to help stay cool. Place them in a basket or hang them from a garden stake for easy access.
Provide sunscreen, bug spray, and hand wipes. Bonus points if you put them in a bucket of ice so when guests use them they’ll be cool and refreshing!
Mesh food tents are fantastic to cover food and keep the bugs at bay. There are a variety of sizes and shapes to fit different platters and bowls.
Tropical Summer Craft Party
Try adding certain grasses, herbs and flowers that naturally repel insects. Include them in your garden or in potted plants. Here are some that fend off flies, ants, and mosquitos.
The older I get the less time I want to spend prepping, and the more time I want to spend with family and friends and enjoying the party my self. The way I do that is by planning
