The primary purpose of the LCFEF Summer School is to provide a high quality, rigorous 9-12 selection of course offerings to allow students to improve their academic standing (remedial students) as well as allow other students to accelerate and enhance their academic program.

LCFEF

The La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation (LCFEF) offers a comprehensive, five-week summer school program in support of the La Cañada Unified School District, the community of La Cañada Flintridge and students in the surrounding communities. Enrollment is open to LCUSD and non-LCUSD high school students. LCFEF Summer School 2024 will be offered at La Cañada High School (LCHS) to students entering 7th – 12th grade. Summer school dates will be June 11 – July 12.  In observation of the holiday, classes will not be held on June 19th and July 4-5.

Core academic offerings are designed to allow students to work ahead,   freeing up their school-year schedule so that they can pursue electives or specialty classes. Students also are able to enroll in classes in order to remediate a D or an F grade. Courses offered meet the A-G college admission requirements as well as meet or exceed the academic rigor of California State, La Cañada Unified and University of California standards. LCFEF Summer School is also NCAA approved and compliant. Coursework fully prepares students to succeed in sequential classes in same and related subjects offered during the following school year.

Below is a list of the what we offered for 2023 Summer School. All courses require a minimum number of students enrolled in order to run.

An LCFEF Summer School credit course is comprised of one full year of academic learning presented over a five-week, five-hour per day session. Classes move quickly and students are generally best served by taking classes in subject areas where they are academically strong. Students who are remediating a class will have an advantage in that they will be “reviewing” material already learned. Because of the intensive nature of the coursework, students must expect to spend considerable out-of-class time doing homework in order to succeed. For that reason, no more than three (3) absences will be allowed; otherwise credit for a full-year class will not be earned. More detail about absences is provided in our policies under Attendance. LCFEF Summer School curriculum is based upon LCHS regular school year programs, uses the same textbook and materials, and utilizes a similar instructional time and homework load as LCHS as well. The intimate size of the program permits daily observation of each and every class by summer school principals as well as regular feedback from principals to teachers and from teachers to parents.

Flintridge Prep's Summer School

For over 40 years, Assistance League of Flintridge has held ALF Summer School at one of the elementary schools in the La Cañada Unified School District.  This year, we are pleased to be located at Palm Crest Elementary School.  ALF Summer School is administered by Assistance League of Flintridge members who are volunteers.  Many of the teachers, aides and principals come from the district and nearby areas. Many also return year after year to be part of the program.  During the summer, students are encouraged to participate “for the joy of learning” and there is no homework.

ALF Summer School will be held for four weeks from June 19 through July 14, 2023.  No school July 3rd or 4th.  Classes are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM.  Students can choose up to three subjects that are of the most interest to them and will move between classes and outdoors during their morning routines.  Classes are designed to be engaging and fun while reinforcing concepts learned during the school year.

ALF Summer School classes will be located in the upper campus of Palm Crest Elementary, an area completely separate from the construction planned for this site.
